Former Argentine Cabinet Chief Criticizes Government Policy

Buenos Aires, November 27 (NA) - Former Chief of Staff Aníbal Fernández stated today that there is "nothing new" in the current government's policies because they are "the same as in the '70s and '90s" and claimed that it benefits "a handful of companies" while workers are "dying of hunger".

Fernández criticized yesterday's offer from the business sector at the Consejo del Salario, which, as reported by Agencia Noticias Argentinas, included a salary increase of 4,300 pesos, calling it "a disgrace." In an interview with the program "Sin corbata" on Splendid AM 990, he pointed out that the government "shields" those who propose these figures, allowing them "to say anything and do anything," which led to the negotiation meeting being adjourned without conclusions.

He emphasized that the government "is not interested in workers, the elderly, young people, pregnant women, and people with disabilities."

Regarding the Labor Reform being pushed by the government, Fernández indicated that the laws regulating work "should be reviewed, but not to take away workers' rights."

"I have no doubt that they should be reviewed, because the Labor Contract Law is from 1973-74, 50 years have passed, there are reasons to review the law, but don't tell me they are going to review it to take away workers' rights," he stressed.

"The world is already talking not about 8-hour (workdays) but about 6 hours."
